Implementing the New Global Internal Audit Standards

The Global Internal Audit Standards, issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and effective January 9, 2025, represent the most significant transformation of the internal audit professional framework in more than two decades. The new Standards redefine how internal audit functions are structured, governed, managed and evaluated, introducing a modern framework designed to strengthen internal audit’s role in organizational governance, risk management and internal control. A major innovation of the new framework is the integration of the previous professional elements, including the Mission of Internal Audit, Definition of Internal Auditing, Core Principles, Code of Ethics and Standards, into a single, unified structure: the Global Internal Audit Standards.
